A Night to Remember: GVMA at the Newbury Spring Festival
The GVMA House Band
Last night was one of those nights — electric atmosphere, inspiring talent, and a packed theatre filled with community spirit. Our third annual showcase event as part of the Newbury Spring Festival was a beautiful reminder of what music can do: bring people together and spotlight rising talent from across our town.
Every year, we aim to create something special — a celebration of music and the arts in Newbury featuring incredible performances by schools, music academies, and our very own students and teachers. And this year was our biggest and most diverse line-up yet!
We kicked off the evening with Highwood Copse Primary School, whose Year 1 & 2 choir lit up the stage with their two-song set. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and the crowd didn’t hold back with their applause — the perfect start to the night.

Next up, the Mary Hare School Band delivered a moving and energetic set of classics from Don’t Look Back in Anger to Chasing Cars. These talented young musicians, all of whom are deaf or hard of hearing, reminded us what true musical passion and expression really look like.

Closing the first half of the show was the brilliant Academy of Vocal Arts. With stunning stage presence and next-level vocal delivery, their performers captured hearts in the audience and even had those of us backstage singing along.

After a quick break, Vox Fresh stormed the stage with their signature blend of pop hits and vocal harmonies — complete with choreography. Their set was polished, energetic, and a real highlight of the evening.

To wrap things up, our GVMA House Band took the stage for the second year running. With a few fresh faces in the lineup, they delivered a tight, punchy three-song set spanning decades of great music. Fronted by GVMA vocalist Gabby and supported by a team of our brilliant teachers, they showed exactly what our students can achieve with the right guidance, support, and stage to shine on.

This event wasn’t just a showcase — it was a celebration. Of local talent. Of the power of performance. And of what happens when young musicians get the chance to share their sound with a crowd.
